In the series, we meet different people; friends and our clients. We ask them what home means to them. We reflect on how a home is built, what values it reflects, and what kind of moments are lived within its walls. Each story is different, but they are united by the same idea: home begins right where you are.
What does home mean to you?
Home is a haven, the best place in the world. We feel really good at home, where thoughts flow, we feel good and safe. The comfort and atmosphere of the home, especially the right lighting, are important to us and we have invested in them.
What kind of moment or thing makes you feel at home?
Yes, it's a leisurely Saturday , when you can have a cup of coffee and spend time with your loved ones at home. We've always loved the weekends off, when you don't have any special plans and can do whatever you want.
Do you have a routine, object or corner that makes your home special?
Often on weekday evenings we spend time relaxing on the sofa with the whole group. It is nice to put a cup of tea on the Ehea Living coffee table and change the lighting to a dimmer, indirect light. Often, the lighting is the Ehea Living Teo lamp , which creates a soft indirect light in the living room.
How do your personalities or values appear in your home?
Of course, our work as designers is also reflected in our homes. Many of the products are designed by us or alternatively purchased second-hand and refurbished by our own hands. We value durability in interior design and objects, both in terms of materials and style. Objects made from genuine natural materials are easier to maintain and they also patina beautifully with use.
What is the best memory you have experienced at home?
It was when we first got our long-awaited puppy home about a year ago. The arrival of a dog has brought a lot of joy to our lives and has of course been a big change that has remained in our minds as a fond memory. Now, home wouldn't even feel like home without Nuutti the dog.
What does the phrase “Home begins here” mean to you personally?
Home has always been the most important place for us, both in Finland and abroad. Even though home has sometimes been a small hut or a cell, we have always wanted to make it comfortable and cozy. For us, home is much more than an apartment and the things inside it, it is a warm nest where it is always wonderful to return.
